Jorge Rubén Orellana

July 8, 1931 —

I called Jorge to wish him a happy birthday as always by saying “I love you” in English.  That’s what he has said to me every time we met at a milonga.  Today, he asked, who is this?  I’ll forgive him at 86.  He’ll have a gathering with the family tonight at home where he lives with his daughter.

I remember the first time I danced with Jorge.  It was at Viejo Correo in Caballito, only months after I had moved to Buenos Aires.  His friends at the table are gone.
