Dia del Patria

May 25, 2015

I saw a flier at the park about Dia del Patria and decided to attend the event.

The official celebration at Plaza 1st de Mayo in Balvanera began with a brief account of the historic week of May 1810 leading up to the formation of the first government in the town hall.

The kids carried the flag.  All sang the national anthem (except me, that is).

They raised the flag in the center of the plaza.

There was recorded folk music for anyone who wanted to dance Chacarera.

This woman wore her finest outfit, but unfortunately she had to settle for me as a partner.

This young woman saw that I danced Chacarera, so she joined me when the older woman sat down to rest.  Everyone enjoyed hot chocolate and churros after the ceremony.

Today is Independence Day in Argentina.
