It can’t be closed

When I recently noticed the windows covered with paper, I thought that remodeling was underway at the Gardel Restaurant at the corner of Independencia and Entre Rios; at least I hoped that was the case.  The waiter Hector always greeted me when I passed by during my fourteen years in the neighborhood.

Then the other night I saw the large sign on the roof was gone.  Peeking inside I saw that all the tango photos on the walls are gone.  This could mean only one thing — a change in ownership.

Gardel was a favorite place for many after a milonga.  Their media lunas were the best.
