Tuesday, November 10:  Conference on Carlos Gardel by Luis Feldman at Museo Casa Carlos Gardel, Jean Jaures 735 in Abasto.  19 hs.  He is the expert on Gardel.  His film, “Un Alma que Canta” will be presented.  Long, but interesting film on the life of Carlos Gardel.   A visit to the museum is a must.  http://www.museocasacarlosgardel.buenosaires.gob.ar/gardelact.htm

Friday, November 13: Homenaje for Ismael “El Turco” Heljalil at Lucy & Dany’s milonga in Maipu 444.  Opens at 18 hs.  If God danced tango, he would surely dance like Ismael!  See my Youtube channel for videos of Ismael dancing with Graciela.

Saturday, November 14: Annual Museum Night in Buenos Aires with hundreds of places open to the public.  I will be attending the concert by Orquesta Tipica Gente de Tango with singer Hector Morano playing the style of Carlos Di Sarli in front of the city legislature building on Peru and Hipoloto Irygogen downtown at 20 hs.  They performed three half-hour sets from 8:15-11:15pm to audiences of 200-300.  It was a cool night, perfect for an outdoor concert.  Videos will be up on my youtube channel soon.

Wednesday, November 25: Talk (in Castellano) by Dr. Emilio Santabaya.  18 a 19,30 hs. Free. www.emiliosantabaya.com.ar  Club Espanol, Bernardo Irygoyen 172.  Take stairs to lower level.  This 159-year old club is magnificent.

Thursday, November 26:  How to listen to a tango arrangement.  Ignacio Varchausky will present a workshop at Casa del Tango, Guardia Vieja 4049 at 15 hs.  Free, presented in Castellano.  He will describe the fundamental elements that make a musical style.  The objective in two hours is for participants to acquire sufficient concepts and information to get closer to the music and help them in listening, thereby enjoying the art of the tango more.  Open to the public, no musical training required to attend.  register info@tangovia.org  

Sunday, November 29: Orquesta Beba Pugliese and Ensemble Carla Pugliese in concert.  Casa de Cultura, Salon Dorado, Avenida de Mayo 575. 18 hs.  Free.

Dia del Tango – Friday, December 11:  Orquesta Escuela del Tango Emilio Balcarce under the direction of Nestor Marconi present a free concert at the Biblioteca Nacional, Aguero and Las Heras, Borges Auditorium, Recoleta.  19 hs.

Annual Day of Tango Celebration on Avenida de Mayo - Saturday, December 12.  From Nueve de Julio to Plaza de Mayo, there are three stages with live performances throughout the evening.  Details will be posted when the schedule has been published. 

November 14 premiere of Milena Plebs’ new show “Tramatango” in Teatro Avenida, Corrientes 1659.  Wednesday shows are $25 & $10 pesos.  Thursday through Saturday at 21, 30 hs; Sundays at 20,30 hs.  Main floor $40, $30.  Box office open during afternoon to buy tickets.  I attended the November 19 performance.  I recommend it.  Milena has finally found a partner who can make her shine–Roberto Reis.  Together they command the stage.  She has assembled an excellent cast of multi-talented dancers who are equally comfortable with contemporary choreography and tango.  I don’t usually care for stage shows, but this one was outstanding.  Don’t expect too much in the way of traditional tango, but you will enjoy the Alonsos’ dancing.
