I was having dinner one summer evening in 2001 at the corner of San Juan and Boedo at the Mino restaurant with Ernesto Delgado and Miguel Angel Balbi, two men who have been friends since they were young boys. We were conversing about tango and the milongas. Ernesto said, “Before I was married to my wife, I was married to the milonga. I have been widowed since 1989, and I’m still married to the milonga.” It took me years to understand what he meant. I decided that “Married to the Milonga” would be the title of a book I would write about my conversations with the milongueros. Tango Chamuyo is the realization of the book dedicated to the milongueros.
